APPLE DAY

The Mecca of food also known as Borough Market will be opening up its doors this Sunday 26th October for Apple Day. So as if you need any excuse to don a hat with a pom-pom and wear mittens, Apple Day promises to hold a cornucopia of Autumnal produce, with the humble pomme taking centre stage, with apples in every imaginable variety present in an array of tasty drinks, cakes and warm festive treats.

Held from 11am – 5pm with music and merriment [such as apple-bobbing provided by the Ministry of Fun in Southwark Cathedral Churchyard] it looks like it will be a fantastic way to spend an early Autumn Sunday! The annual Lions Part October Plenty Harvest festival will also be beginning outside Shakespeare’s Globe at noon and proceeding with a colourful procession to the market. Harvest festival was definitely the best assembly at school, so it’s a great chance to take part in a grown up version.

As if you needed any further encouragement, Apple Day also has one of the coolest leaflets I have picked up in months, designed by Peter Gibbons who does much of Borough Markets art work. Apparently he has a problem with people stealing his posters as they like them so much, and I can see why, I’ll be on the lookout myself on Sunday! See you there!

I LOVE BOXIE

Boxie is an upstart t-shirt business, with devoted fans from Dalston to Berlin, satisfied customers include a housewife from Arizona and scene kids in Copenhagen. Mistake Boxie for “just another slogan t-shirt” business at your peril. I love the typography and the photography.

The thing that interests us the most about Boxie is their ‘T SPOKE’ range. If you’re sick of the homogenous high street and faux vintage 80s band t-shirts, then this is what you’ve been waiting for. Moxie the founder of Boxie describes the process better than I ever could, “you call me/meet me and tell me a story and I go away and turn it into one line on a T shirt”. I like this a lot, and it brings a sense on intimacy back to t-shirts that I personally haven’t felt for a really long time.

Check out Boxie/Moxie.

PS

Sorry for the lack of posts, I’m working on something really exciting [well, I think it’s exciting], as soon as it’s ready you’ll be the first to hear about it.

FRIDAY IS DISCO DAY

Do you love the 80s? Pumping basslines? Reverbs? Distortion? Computer generated voices? If yes, you have to check out DW [Kilian Eng & Amir Zaino]. If not, you'll love their sound anyway.

This pair of Stockholm based disco dancers are giving me serious aural pleasure! On their MySpace page they say they sound like, “Hip-pop-house through pink Italo shades”, there is not better way to describe this genius!

In our eyes and ears there is nothing better than great music and great artwork. When the two come together, we love it. We're liking the DW artwork Let’s hope they will be gracing a club night in London soon…

We strongly recommend you have a listen, they’ll make you’re Friday that little bit better. A bold claim, but give ‘em a go.

HIROSHI’S BLUE SUEDE SHOES

Nike has teamed up with streetwear legend/pioneer Hiroshi Fujiwara. This collaboration sees Fujiwara pick one of his favourite Nike shoe, the Tennis Classic SB, and gave it a subtle Fujiwara interpretation.

The classic shoe comes in four solid colourways [blue, gray, green and red] but the blue is our favourite.

You can get your hands on these at the Nike 1948 store on Batemans Row, London from 10.10.08.

DAVID SHRIGLEY

The ubiquitous [yet generally entertaining] David Shrigley is the focus of a new show at the BALTIC in Gateshead. Worth a look if you happen to be on Tyneside over the next couple of months [runs until 9th November 08].

Whilst in Dover Street Market we managed to sneak a picture of the John Galliano installation. We're loving the gold leaf especially the bike.
