LUCHA LIBRE LONDON

In this time economic crisis we need real life super heroes! Lucha Libre is here to save us and cheer us up in the process. Expect to see spectacular high-flying, jaw-dropping, ring-grappling, mask-wearing Mexican entertainment.

Lucha Libre made an impact on London this summer summer and they are back at The Roundhouse from the 6-9th December! We missed them in the summer but we are sure as hell not going to miss them this time.

We are most excited about the cross-dressing action from La Chiquilla’ Ruby Gardenia.

Check out www.luchalibrelondon.com for more info. Expect to see pictures from the event here and our Flickr page [that we have just started].

MTV ROCKS CAMBODIA

Placebo will be performing on the 7th December at the MTV Exit concert at Angkor Wat, Cambodia, the aim of the festival is to raise awareness and increase prevention of human trafficking.

Angkor Wat is the best-preserved temple at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed complex near Siem Reap, Cambodia. The 12th-Century temple served as the backdrop for scenes in Tomb Raider, the action movie starring Angelina Jolie, and is one of the most unique and iconic cultural sites of the world. Whilst other cultural, classical and operatic performances have taken place at the temple, this will be the first ever rock concert.

WHAT THE NEW YORK TIMES WISHES THEY COULD PRINT

When I first saw this I thought I'd missed a huge bit of news. Later I found out that it was a prank by collective of liberal activists [three of which actually work at the New York times]. 1,000 volunteers across the country handed out 1.2 million copies of a spoof of The New York Times, dated July 4, 2009.

The pranksters say they wanted to encourage the administration of Democratic President-elect Barack Obama to keeps its promises.

Lets hope one day we will actually see these headlines.

ELITISM WITHIN ESCAPISM

Against popular belief, amongst the plastic landscape and forced fun there is, in fact, one place inside Disney World that serves alcohol.

The 33 Club hides behind an inconspicuous door off 'Main Street' and, with a 14-year [or more] waiting list for membership, which costs in excess of $1000p.a, it's even more exciting than meeting Mickey Mouse.

CARVE YOUR OWN CARD

Lazy Oaf have just released these awesome postcards that you carve your message onto. They remind me of carving Josephine into my desk at school. Priced at £5.00 we think these are a cracking little present.
If that isn't enough for you... they have just released a small selection of their Valentines Day cards. We solved your Christmas present dilemma early and we've done the same for Valentines Day.

We're a fan of the Dot Branning [formerly Dot Cotton] cards if you want to send me one just email me for my postal address.

THE BIG KNIT

I was in my local supermarket and saw little woolly hats sitting on the top of the Innocent smoothie bottles. It turns out it is part of their Big Knit campaign. 50p from each bottle sold goes to Age Concern to help older people stay warm in winter.

These littles gems will are available in Sainsbury's stores throughout November.

A BIG DOLLOP OF FUN

On Saturday 22nd November dollop London, joes[a]fiend's favourite club night embarks on its most ambitious venture to date: a party so big it’s going to take two venues to do it justice! The Old Blue Last is a favourite haunt of dollop’s so where better to start the proceedings? Always conscious of pushing things forward the second venue is a new fixture - The Working Rooms on Kingsland Road is a creative workspace and showroom that will double up as a warehouse space ideally suited to keeping the party moving into the wee small hours.

Buraka Som Sistema head the bill with a set specially constructed for the occasion; DFA’s Disco Don Juan Maclean treats the bass bins to some live Acid; Brooklyn’s Electro Punk protagonists Team Robespierre play live, as do Spanish synth botherers Crystal Fighters; Chik Budo will be blasting out a squalling mix of House, Punk and Jazz whilst Only Joe completes the list for live entertainment.

Be sure to check it out, it will be one not to miss!!!

MORE SMUT ON THE INTERNET

With the Internet full of smut, we thought we should get smutty too.

Here is 'SMUT EYE GROCERY'... we stumbled across the abandoned store, where else but on Flickr.

The Smut Eye Grocery store, which for many years was the trade center of the community. For most of its existence, the store was operated by the local W. B. Phillips family - W. B. "Will" first, then by his son, Ulric and wife, Cora, and later by another son, "Mose." W. B. Phillips was the son of Moses Brinson and Rachel Cope Phillips, and the grandson of Benjamin Phillips. In the early 1900's Clara, wife of W. B. Phillips, had a millinery shop in the front northeast side of the store. The present day Smuteye Grocery, though not in operation, is owned by a granddaughter of W. B. and Clara Phillips.

I took some liberties with this photo, no, not the door, it's real. I think by this store's very nature it was asking for it. Pat Henderson

The year is 3001 the fashion designer is Jean-Charles de Castelbajac the models are supplied by Lego. This is possibly the best thing I have in a long time [although I do say that almost every time I post].

Keep an eye out for Kayne West [1:52] and Anna Wintour [2:24] on the front row.

BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER

SIBLING, is a new men’s knitwear label. Born out of a desire to give knitwear for men a kick up the arse, the premier collection includes bright and playful subversions of classic knitwear styles.

We think their knitwear should be made compulsory for every man in the world, it would certainly make the world a better place!

ELECTION SELECTION

One of our favourite discoveries of 2008 has been the free PDF magazine from Hamish Hamilton, Five Dials – beautifully laid out and illustrated it really brightens up our commute [as the publishers say – it is best enjoyed in its printed out form.]

For the looming you-know-what they’ve got a few writers [including a member of Spinal Tap no less] together to write about the morning after. Our advice? Switch off the electrical appliances and curl up with Issue 4 tonight – maybe one will be true...

THE BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS

We’re pretty sure this is the breakfast of champions. If Shreddies lock up hunger ‘til lunchtime, ObamaO’s could feed the 5000.

ObamaO’s retail at $39.00 a box [limited to 500], we think that’s well worth it. You can buy them at Airbed & Breakfast. Did we mention there is a jingle too… click here to have a listen.
