We had the good fortune to stay at the (nearly) newly opened
Ace Hotel in New York a couple of weeks back and were mightily impressed with the set up. From the army surplus/vintage meets slick modernist décor to the well-informed staff, the whole operation looks to be bringing a different level of experience to Manhattan’s hotel scene.

]fiend particularly liked the
Smeg fridge [well stocked with local drinks but more than enough room to add your own], stationery set [including industrial style pencil sharpener clamped to the side of the desk, memories of Design Technology classes came flowing back] and unique furniture [sourced by Ace’s design collaborators
Roman & Williams] in each room. The view wasn’t too bad either.
The lobby not being finished during our stay only gives further reason to return next time we’re in town, from what we saw when peeking behind the curtains it is going be mightily impressive. This, plus the next gastronomic venture [The Breslin] by Ken Friedman and April Bloomfield of
The Spotted Pig opening within the Ace’s premises finds us finishing this post whilst dreaming up reasons for a return visit.
