WOW WOWCH!

WOWCH is a Brooklyn based label that has been pumping out tees since 2003. Founded by Max Cattaneo and Matt Shankman, WOWCH has real sense of humour in their designs.

A couple of our favourites feature the grim reaper being followed by a group of huskies on tie dye and a grizzly bear driving an 80s pimp wagon. The brand is gaining iconic status in America and is currently stocked in the best stores around the globe, such as, Colette [Paris], I Heart [New York] and Beams [Tokyo].

HNLR [ECO LUX]

We are really excited about this eco-store environment by Lorenzo Hadar. HLNR is part of the new eco-lux brands to take the US by….wind power.

The entire shop is sustainable, paperless, recyclable and any other eco- related word you can think of. This includes the hangers which are recycled, to the toilet which is fitted with a low volume flush. The entire building is powered by solar panels and they have a paperless receipt system [with your receipts being emailed to you].

The store stocks high-end designers such as Ann Demeulemeester, Viktor & Rolf, Preen and Balmain, the 4,000-square-foot structure also houses a wide range of organic labels — a category the shop will add to by the year’s end.

The only place where paper can be found is in the Kohzo denim, which is made from pineapple, bamboo and traditional Japanese paper.

Well, there and in the till.

FIORUCCI MADE ME HARDCORE

An echoing voice drones a list of just recognisable brand names:

'Ellesse, Cerrutti, Sergio Tacchini, Lacoste, Fila, Kappa, Fiorucci'. A register of key labels worn by Casuals, the original fashionista football hooligans.

Mark Leckey's 'Fiorucci made me Hardcore' (1999) uses both found and original footage to take us from Northern Soul all-nighters to the raves of the late '80s dripping with ecstasy.

A fashion document and course in dance technique on one hand. On the other, a tale of youth's loss of innocence, of how we got where we are today.

CLOTHES WITH NO WOES

Tel Aviv is widely seen as the place to source original and underground streetwear. Take for example brother and sister Dania and Yoram who make up The Hellers. They produce all their clothes by hand, and ultimately never sacrifice quality. They cut and sew. This is their response to the globalised clothing market where this sense of handmade quality has been lost to mass-produced fast fashion.

The Hellers’ aim is for the people that purchase their clothing to feel close to and proud of the garment that they have made. They want to know who they are and for them to feel as if they have a relationship with them through the garment.

The jackets are made with deadstock fabrics and they advertise by way of nightlife photography (like The Cobra Snake) and word of mouth. Their jackets are wild and the acid washed jeans are right on the money.

GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE CLOUDS

This amazing jungle retreat near the fishing village of Yelapa in tropical Mexico was designed by Heinz Legler. The project started as a personal hideaway, but it ended up as a hotel.

JULIETA SANS [WE CAN'T GET ENOUGH]

Ripening Peach, Fernanda Laguna

Where the Wild Things Are, Maurice Sendak

Intimacy, Raymond Carver

Well Read” is a series of staged portraits of fictional characters, be it from a novel, a poem or a children’s story.

The process begins when Julieta invites each model to choose a book and a character that is significant to them. After reading the book (both the model and Julieta), agree on a costume, location, props and feel for the photograph, resulting in a collaborative performance: each model brings their personal story and Julieta interprets her own, multiplying the possibilities of reading beyond the fiction evoked by the photograph.

PUT YOUR BACK INTO IT

Julieta Sans explores the performative potential and very peculiar gestures that people adopt (or not) when they are told that they have complete freedom to pose in any way they want without facing the camera and the photographer.

Click here to see the full series of images.

Julieta is now working on the second part of the project where she will be photographing men and try to find out if one gender is more expressive or self conscious than the other.

ALEXANDER THE WHITE VAN MAN?

Whilst taking an evening stroll along Columbia Road, E2, joes[a]fiend came across this bemusing transit van. Could it be that one of London's finest has taken up mobile tailoring? Probably not. But we like to believe so.
